China will serve as the first secretary-general of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), said Vice-Foreign Minister Liu Guchang Wednesday.
The individual candidate for the post has been decided and will be submitted to the upcoming SCO Summit for final approval, Liu said.
The SCO Summit 2002 in St. Petersburg decided that China would take the post and the SCO secretariat will be located in Beijing permanently, he said.
The member countries are preparing to establish an SCO anti-terrorism organization, he added.
The fight against terrorism is an important field of cooperation in the SCO, which is decided by the regional situation and in the common concern of all the member states, and the cooperation should be reinforced, he said.
