The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has issued warnings to state and local law enforcement agencies that al-Qaeda could mount new attacks in the United States or target US and Western interests overseas, local media reports said Monday.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has issued warnings to state and local law enforcement agencies that al-Qaeda could mount new attacks in the United States or target US and Western interests overseas, local media reports said Monday.
"The US intelligence community assesses that attacks against USand Western targets overseas are likely; attacks in the United States cannot be ruled out," the FBI was quoted as saying in its bulletin, sent out Friday.
The bombings in the Saudi Arabian capital of Riyadh last week "indicate that the al-Qaeda network remains active and highly capable," the bulletin said.
At least 34 people, including eight Americans, were killed in the bombings on three Saudi housing compounds on May 12. The FBI bulletin said the attacks featured "traditional hallmarks of al-Qaeda operations."
Al-Qaeda also was suspected in another series of bomb attacks Friday in Casablanca, Morocco, that killed 41 people.
