S. China City Lures Huge Investment to Boost Agriculture

Fuzhou, capital of east China's Fujian Province, has signed contracts involving 25 overseas-financed projects during the on-going cross-Straits fair, with contractual investment totaling 35.64 million US dollars.

Fuzhou, capital of east China's Fujian Province, has signed contracts involving 25 overseas-financed projects during the on-going cross-Straits fair, with contractual investment totaling 35.64 million US dollars.

According to the city government's agriculture office, about 10 of the above-mentioned projects involve Taiwanese enterprises, with contractual investment topping 11.02 million US dollars.

The overseas investment focuses mainly on aquatic products, animal husbandry, flowers and plants, fruits and vegetables and edible mushrooms, said the city's agricultural officials, adding that most of the projects involve the introduction of new technologies and improved varieties.

Statistics from the city show that by the end of last year, thecity had introduced a total of 830 agricultural projects with actual investment totaling 690 million US dollars, including 383 projects and 280 million US dollars in investment from the Taiwanese enterprises.

The five-day fair opened on Sunday.
