Russia Gives Aid to China's Anti-SARS Efforts
The government of the Russian Federation donated 1.33 million US dollars worth of medicine, disinfectants and medical equipment to China here Saturday, to support the nationwide fight against severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS).

A special aircraft with 29.8 tons of medicines and medical equipment arrived at Beijing International Airport Saturday afternoon. China's Ministry of Health on behalf of the Chinese government held a reception ceremony at the airport.
Chinese Vice-Health Minister Wang Longde said the Chinese government's fight against SARS had attracted concern and support from the international community.
Russia's donation showed the friendship of the Russian government and people, he said.
The Chinese people were determined to eradicate SARS, he said.
The Russian Ambassador to China Igor A. Rogachev said the Russian government and people were greatly concerned about the situation in China.
The Russian Embassy in China was receiving letters and phone calls from health departments and research institutes in Russia, expressing willingness to help their Chinese friends.
He expressed his confidence that SARS would be stopped in China.
The equipment and medicines were the first batch of donations from the Russian Federation, and would be distributed in Beijing, Tianjin, Hebei, Shanxi and Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region.
