Chinese Vice Premier Zeng Peiyan said Saturday that economic development and the fight against severe acute respiratory disease (SARS) are equally important for the Chinese government.

In the process, China welcomes multi-national companies like Motorola to increase investment and to play an active part in China's construction of its information system, Zeng told Mike Zafirovski, president and chief operating officer of Motorola Inc.,during a meeting.
Zafirovski said his company's cooperation with China was based on a long-term strategy, adding that Motorola pays great attention not only to manufacturing and sales, but also to product research,local procurement and export.
The company is willing to actively participate in China's information infrastructure construction, he said.
Before the meeting, Motorola and its staff in China donated telecommunications equipment and money valued at 11.8 million yuan(1.43 million US dollars) to the Chinese government to support itseffort in combating SARS.
