US, Russia Leaders Discuss Iraq, Terror Attacks
US President George W. Bush on Friday called his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin to discuss issues on bilateral relations, postwar Iraq and terrorist threats,the White House said.
US President George W. Bush on Friday called his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin to discuss issues on bilateral relations, postwar Iraq and terrorist threats,the White House said.
"The president began his day with a phone call with President Putin of Russia. The presidents underscored their commitment to building a strong US-Russia partnership," spokesman Ari Fleischer told reporters.
He said the two leaders stressed the importance of cooperating on post-conflict Iraq and expressed condolences over the terroristattacks in Chechnya and Saudi Arabia.
They noted that the United States and Russia face a common threat from terrorism and the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction, Fleischer added.
He said Bush and Putin look forward to meeting in Russia's St. Petersburg at the end of the month.
