US Consul General Highlights US-HK Trade Relation
The United States' commitment to Hong Kong remains strong, and SARS outbreak has not undercut the fundamental basis for robust Hong Kong-US trade, US Consul Generalin Hong Kong James Keith said Friday.
The United States' commitment to Hong Kong remains strong, and SARS outbreak has not undercut the fundamental basis for robust Hong Kong-US trade, US Consul Generalin Hong Kong James Keith said Friday.
At a luncheon held by Hong Kong General Chamber of Commerce, he said SARS presents a severe challenge, but Hong Kong is working hard to overcome it.
"Hong Kong has demonstrated impressive assets in the face of this public health crisis, beating back a new disease that broke without warning," he said.
He added Hong Kong's trade prospects are still good and its current account surpluses are high. The disease has not undercut the fundamental basis for robust Hong Kong-US trade, he said.
Hong Kong has relied on strict adherence to the rule of law, the free flow of information, capital, and good and clean, efficient government, he added.
"So long as these fundamentals remain sound, there is every reasons to look to the future with confidence," James Keith stressed.
