SARS-related Cases Handled in China
The State Development and Reform Commission (SDRC) revealed Friday nine cases of profiteering from severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) in rural areas.

The State Development and Reform Commission (SDRC) revealed Friday nine cases of profiteering from severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) in rural areas.
One case included overcharging of drugs and medical equipment in a drugstore in north China's
Hebei
Province. The owner of the drugstore was fined 4,000 yuan and received administrative punishment.
In another case, a town government in
Inner Mongolia
set up a toll-gate to charge a disinfection fee for vehicles. The department concerned was fined 20,000 yuan and the persons involved received administrative punishment.
Persons involved in other cases were either dismissed from office or punished administratively.
The SDRC also encouraged farmers to report similar cases to thelocal departments in charge of pricing.
