A 28-member delegation of the Hong Kong General Chamber of Commerce (HKGCC) will visit Guangdongon May 20 to discuss with local officials on economic cooperation between the two neighboring regions, the Chamber said Thursday.
The members joining the trip come from a wide variety of sectors including banking, professional consultants, finance and securities, construction, etc.
Through the visit and discussions, it is expected that both sides will be able to demonstrate their commitment towards resuming normal business activities and reinvigorating their economies with the stabilization of the SARS break, the HKGCC said.
"Since the SARS problem in both Hong Kong and Guangdong is slowly diminishing, HKGCC believes that this is the time to gradually resume business as usual," said Dden Y Woon, CEO of the Chamber.
"While Hong Kong government is devising plans to revitalize Hong Kong's economy, local businessmen should take the initiative to disseminate positive messages to the international community that Hong Kong's business people remain active and, as such, business travel should be resumed," Woon said.
Woon said the visit aims to show that Hong Kong has maintained its close economic and trade relationship with the Pearl River Delta.
"The integration, although in the future will involve communication more about public health issues, should right now bepushed forward to facilitate highly effective and normal business operation in both places," Woon said.
