US, S. Korea Agree to Work for Peaceful Solution of Nuclear Issue
US President George W. Bush and visiting South Korean President Roh Moo-Hyun on Wednesday agreed to work for a peaceful solution of the nuclear issue on the Korean peninsula.
US President George W. Bush and visiting South Korean President Roh Moo-Hyun on Wednesday agreed to work for a peaceful solution of the nuclear issue on the Korean peninsula.
But both also vowed that they will would not tolerate the emergence of nuclear weapons on the peninsula.
"President Roh and President Bush reaffirmed that they will not tolerate nuclear weapons in North Korea (the Democratic People's Republic of Korea)," the two leaders said in a joint statement issued after their first summit at the White House.
They said the two countries will work with the international community to achieve the "verifiable and irreversible elimination"of Pyongyang's alleged nuclear programs.
