Russian President Vladimir Putin said in Moscow on Tuesday that recent terrorist acts in Chechnya and Saudi Arabia share similar characteristics, Interfax reported.

"The handwriting of the terrorist acts in Chechnya and Saudi Arabia is absolutely the same. The consequences are absolutely comparable," Putin said during a meeting with NATO Secretary-General George Robertson.

Monday's terrorist blast in the Chechen village of Znamenskoye left 55 dead and 86 others hospitalized, 57 of them in serious condition.

Hours later, three deadly blasts occurred in Riyadh, capital ofSaudi Arabia, in a residential area, killing at least 29 and injuring some 194. The death toll is expected to climb.

"Russia sees the terrorist act in Chechnya as an attempt made by destructive forces not only in Chechnya, but also outside of it,to close the way to peace to the people of Chechnya," Putin said.

Robertson, who is in Moscow for a NATO-Russia Council session, said that the bomb attacks in Saudi Arabia and Chechnya have brought NATO and Russia closer together in their fight against terrorism.
