Beijing Deputy Mayor Zhang Mao said at a press conference in Beijing Tuesday that despite the SARS outrage, life is "normal and orderly" in the Chinese capital.
Zhang admitted that when the city was caught unprepared in the spread of SARS, there was a panic among the masses of the people. But with the government's enhanced efforts in publicizing relevant information, such a panichas gradually been reduced.
"The best way to solve the problem is to show the public the result of the effective prevention and treatment of the disease," he said.
The deputy mayor reaffirmed that Beijing has so far experienced no social unrest.
Beijing to control SARS in four aspects
Beijing is trying to control the spread of Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) in four aspects, an official with Beijing Health Bureau said here Tuesday.
Liang Wannian, deputy director of the bureau told a press conference that control work will focus on fever clinics, people having close contacts with SARS patients, SARS patients from outside Beijing, and SARS patients not admitted at the hospital.
He stressed Beijing will ensure every SARS patients to be received by hospitals any time and any place.
He also expressed that by taking tight control over the four aspects, Beijing is confident in winning the battle over SARS.
