Since it began accepting donations on April 26, the Beijing Municipal Bureau of Civil Affairs has received a total of 200 million yuan (about 24.1 million dollars) in money and 50 million yuan (about 6.02 million dollars) in material donations from otherareas of the country.
"Beijing is experiencing the largest scale of donations to the city since 1949," said Wu Wenyan, deputy director of the civil affairs bureau.
Wu, who has been busy handling the donations, said more large donations are coming, including some from foreign governments.
