NATO's Secretary General Visits Moscow
George Robertson, Secretary General of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), arrived in Moscow on Monday evening to attend a meeting of the NATO-Russia Council (NRC) at the level of permanent representatives.

Upon his arrival, Robertson expressed the belief that the upcoming first meeting of the NRC will be of historic significance,saying that NATO needs Russia and Russia needs NATO while the world is building stronger security by acting jointly, Interfax news agency reported Monday.
Ambassadors of 19 member states will participated in the firstmeeting of the NRC to be held in Moscow on Tuesday. Robertson willmeet with Russian Foreign Minister Igor Ivanov, Defense Minister Sergei Ivanov, the leaders of both houses of parliament and some other Russian political leaders.
The NATO official said NRC, which was set up on May 28 last year in Rome, has achieved a great deal.
The meeting will be an opportunity to review the council's achievements in its first year of operation, in preparation for next month's meeting of NRC Foreign Ministers in Madrid to exchange views on current security issues, including the current situation in Afghanistan and in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Interfax quoted Robertson as saying.
