A South Korean man in his 40s, who has been classified as the first SARS probable case, was discharged from hospital to his home on Saturday after symptoms of high fever and pneumonia disappeared.
But the man still will be isolated for another week for safety concerns, according to a decision made by South Korean National Institute of Health (NIH).
After arriving from Beijing on April 21, the 41-year old South Korean man was classified to have contracted the deadly respiratory disease for his chest X-ray indicated signs of pneumonia along with a cough and high fever.
Although the NIH retained its classification of the man as the country's first SARS probable case, he recovered fast after treatment with antibiotics, making it a high possibility that the man only contracted bacterial pneumonia, not the virus which causes SARS.
And the South Korean man also showed a "negative" response in apolymerase chain reaction (PCR) test, which can detects the coronavirus causing the deadly respiratory disease, earlier this week.
Since last Saturday, there have been no new SARS suspected cases reported in South Korea, which made the total amount of SARSsuspected patients unchanged at 15 level.
