No SARS Virus Ever Been Found on Any Plant and Animal in China

According to the news of the People's Daily on May 8 in Beijing and as the reporter learned from the State Quality Control Administration, no SARS virus has ever been found in existence on any foodstuff, animal and plant and other products as testified by the sample checkup and test on SARS virus of many and various foodstuffs.

According to the news of the People's Daily on May 8 in Beijing and as the reporter learned from the State Quality Control Administration, no SARS virus has ever been found in existence on any foodstuff, animal and plant and other products as testified by the sample checkup and test on SARS virus of many and various foodstuffs.

The testing technology for the checkup of the SARS virus on foodstuffs designed and developed by the Checkup and Testing Institution of China Import and Export Commodities has now passed the examination and approval of the expert group of the State Quality Control Administration.

As introduced no epidemic data so far are able to prove that the goods, products or animals will become the sources for SARS infection on human beings though the WHO declared this as early as on April 11. Nevertheless, on entering into April part of the countries in the world on the pretext of preventing the SARS virus began to set up technological barrier to China's exported goods in order to set a limit on the amount of imported goods from China.

Developed by exploiting the virus separation technology under the manually controlled condition it is to cluster effectively the SARS viruses that are artificially added into the sample foodstuff and to be separated for a quick test of the SARS virus by way of the RT-PRC.

The method used can not only make a test and checkup of the processed animal foodstuffs but also be applied in testing the sample body fluid of live animals and plants so as to make certain whether or not the SARS virus exists in any foodstuff, in animals or plants or any other products. The checkup can be done and brought to finish by a technician on a testing instrument in the laboratory for the test of molecular biology. This can be quickly introduced and applied in the checkup and quarantine field, so as to meet the needs of checkup and test in domestic markets and the requirement for a quick customs checkup at ports.
