21 Killed in Militant Attacks in India

Insurgents killed 21 persons and injured eight others in two separate incidents in Tripura, east India, early Wednesday, local police said.

Insurgents killed 21 persons and injured eight others in two separate incidents in Tripura, east India, early Wednesday, local police said.

A group of about 12 suspected militants of the banned All Tripura Tiger Force, accompanied by about 40 tribal collaborators and armed with sophisticated weapons, raided Satchhari, a border village in West Tripura district, in the early hours and gunned down 19 persons.

The police said that the militant sneaked into the village in the Sidhai police station area from neighboring Bangladesh and setfire to 10 houses. They also kidnapped one person.

When the villagers started fleeing, the raiders opened fire andattacked them with sharp weapons, killing 17 persons on the spot. Eight persons were injured. Two others succumbed to their injurieson way to the local hospital.

The second incident took place at Radhanagar village under Kumarghat police station of North Tripura district in the wee hours of Wednesday. A group of 10 suspected insurgents of the banned National Liberation Front of Tripura killed two persons, said the police.

The police said para-military personnel have launched a search operation in the area.
