Pakistani Prime Minister Mir Zafarullah Khan Jamali in Islamabad on Monday evening said he is ready to go to India for "the prosperity and well-being of over a billion people of the (South Asian) sub-continent."

"If Indian Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee would not come to Pakistan, I am ready to go there (India)," he said here while interviewed with the ARY, a London-based Pakistani TV channel on Monday evening.

He said people of the two countries want peace in the region and the recent developments were a "good omen" for them, adding that both Pakistan and India will play their role to ensuring peace.

"Both sides could talk and they were talking," said Jamali.

He stressed that there were no pressures behind the recent peace initiatives in the South Asian region.

Jamali appreciated the positive approach of his Indian counterpart, when Vajpayee told a rally in Indian-controlled Kashmir in April that India likes to resume talks with Pakistan.

Later in April, Jamali telephoned Vajpayee inviting him to visit Pakistan and earlier in May the Indian Prime Minister told the parliament that he would revitalize diplomatic relations at full level with Pakistan and restore the air link between the two.
