Hu Conveys Condolences to Families of Dead Submariners
Chinese President and General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC), Hu Jintao, conveyed condolence messages Saturday to the families of Navy sailors killed in a submarine accident on Friday.

He said the accident of the No. 361 submarine had been a great loss to the Navy of the People's Liberation Army (PLA). He extolled the bravery of all 70 sailors aboard, whose behaviors had proved their true patriotism.
Hu said people should turn their mourning to a source of strength by learning from the accident to advance the country's national defence capacity and speed the PLA's modernization drive.
Leaders of Russia, Japan, France and Germany sent their condolences to Chinese leaders on Saturday over the submarine disaster that killed 70 Chinese Navy sailors aboard, the Foreign Ministry said.
In their messages, the leaders expressed their sorrow at the death of the Chinese Navy sailors and extended their sincere condolences through the Chinese leaders to the families of the victims of the disaster.
70 Chinese Navy sailors aboard a conventionally powered No. 361submarine were killed in an accident near the Neichangshan islands off eastern Shandong province.
