Additional 11 People Confirmed to Have SARS in HK

Additional 11 patients were confirmed to have severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) following admission to public hospitals in Hong Kong, according to a press release of the Department of Health and the Hospital Authority Friday.

Additional 11 patients were confirmed to have severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) following admission to public hospitals in Hong Kong, according to a press release of the Department of Health and the Hospital Authority Friday.

They include two healthcare workers and 9 others who had close contacts with SARS patients.

So far, a total of 878 patients have recovered from SARS and have been discharged from public hospitals.

Of them, 44 were discharged Friday. There are also 97 recovering patients who are in convalescence and preparation for discharge.

Most of the patients currently in hospital are showing positive responses to the new treatment protocol. Eighty-five patients are receiving treatment in intensive care units.

Meanwhile, another eight patients died, bringing the SARS related death toll to 170. The deceased include five men and three women aged between 75 and 93.
