Since the end of the Cold War, the United States has taken some actions that weaken the pillars of a new and fair world order, Costa Rican daily La Nacion reported on Friday.

An article entitled "American Nightmare" carried by the newspaper said the hegemony of the "hawks" in the White House has jeopardized the United Nations Security Council's legality and legitimacy.

The dangerous actions by the United States are based on the document "Project for a New American Century."

The document specifies what Washington's international policy ought to be, with the signatures of the main actors of the present administration, including US Vice President Dick Cheney, Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld and Assistant Secretary of Defense Paul Wolfowitz.

According to the document, the United Nations is deemed as "a forum for left-wingers, anti-zionists and anti-imperialists," that should only be resorted to if there is support to the US policy.

The article said the Iraqi problem is analyzed from the perspective of the US energy interests, without reference to the dictatorship of Saddam Hussein, the protection of human rights, terrorism or arms of mass destruction. It simply stands out the need of keeping military bases in the Gulf region.

The article also criticized Washington's rejection to international agreements such as the Kyoto Protocol and the Agreement on the Rights of Children.
