Color plays an important role in the prevention and control of severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) in
Shanghai
, China's largest city.
At Shanghai Harbor, ships coming from regions with SARS bear a red mark, while ships coming from regions free from SARS bear a black mark.
Meanwhile, all the city's 18,496 buses, 46,000 taxis and 324 subway carriages have been disinfected every day from April 26. A label is attached to each vehicle that goes through the disinfecting process. The labels come in seven colors, each representing a day of the week. The municipal passenger service management center has tightened daily checks since the disinfection regime was introduced late last month.
Cars belonging to some small taxi companies have been found without labels of the required color and were immediately disinfected.
