A real-time monitoring system for gathering information and data concerning SARS was put into use Thursday in Gongshu District of coastal Hangzhou City, the capital of Zhejiang Province, east China.

The system has been adopted by the district's medical bureau and 14 local hospitals and all the monitors used by the bureau and these hospitals have been networked.

The doctors can access real-time information about outpatients and those who have been quarantined for medical tests on the SARS virus.

The system helps make the collection of SARS information and data more timely and accurate, said Ni Rong, deputy director of the bureau.

The monitoring system software was developed by a local software design company.
