Beijing
University's Medical Department renewed their oaths on Labor Day.
They promised to save people's lives and maintain their health at a national flag raising ceremony on May 1, in celebration of workers around the world.
Shi Yanju, a student representative, told Xinhua that as a medical student, she should be able to take a more rational attitude toward the SARS epidemic. She and her college friends were prepared to work at the front-line of the fight against the disease.
There are three general hospitals attached to Beijing University. To date, more than 600 diagnosed SARS patients and suspected SARS carriers have been hospitalized in the three hospitals, making up more than one quarter of the city's total SARS cases.
About 1,000 medical staff members are now working against SARS at the three hospitals with another 2,500 medical staff on stand-by.
Some master degree students and intern bachelors in the Medical Department have contracted SARS while treating SARS patients.
