Abu Mazen's Cabinet Sworn in Before Arafat

Palestinian Prime Minister Mahmoud Abbas, better known as Abu Mazen, and his cabinet were sworn in before Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat on Wednesday.

Palestinian Prime Minister Mahmoud Abbas, better known as Abu Mazen, and his cabinet were sworn in before Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat on Wednesday.

Palestinian official sources said the swearing-in ceremony took place at the presidential compound in the West Bank city of Ramallah, where Arafat have been besieged for more than one year.

The sources said the ceremony was attended by Palestinian Legislative Council Speaker Ahmed Qurei and members of the Central Committee of the Palestine Liberation Organization.

The sources added EU Mideast envoy Miguel Moratinos, UN special coordinator Terje Larson and Russian Mideast envoy Andrei Vdovin also attended the ceremony.

The sources said the cabinet will immediately take office as soon as the swearing-in ceremony is over.
