DPRK's Way to Solve Nuclear Issue Depends on US Actions
The Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) will consider the United States' attitude and actions first before taking any further steps in resolving the nuclear standoff on the Korean Peninsula, the official Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) said on Tuesday.
The Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) will consider the United States' attitude and actions first before taking any further steps in resolving the nuclear standoff on the Korean Peninsula, the official Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) said on Tuesday.
"Prepared for both dialogue and confrontation, we will choose our way to go by closely observing the United States' following actions," the KCNA said in a commentary.
The DPRK and the United States held a three-day meeting in Beijing last week without bringing out any substantial results. It was the first face-to-face talk between the two sides since the nuclear issue on the Korean Peninsula erupted last October.
The United States demanded during the talks that the DPRK scrap its nuclear program first, the commentary said.
As far as the nuclear program is concerned, "verifiable inspection" means "disarmament," and inspection is the prelude to a war, which was vividly reflected by the war on Iraq, it said.
As a nation possesses the greatest storage of nuclear weapons all over the world, the United States should be dismantled first, the commentary said.
"If the US does not abandon its anti-DPRK policy and present our nuclear issue to the (UN) Security Council, any sanction adopted by it will mean a green light to war against us and we will enhance our self-defensive means," the KCNA said.
"We have possessed the self-defensive capabilities and physical deterrent forces to destroy the aggressors with all corresponding means, including countering air strikes of the United States with air strikes, ground strategies with ground strategies," it warned.
