Academician Named President of Qinghua University
Gu Binglin, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), succeeded Wang Dazhong as president of prestigious Qinghua (Tsinghua) University in Beijing Tuesday, according to sources from the prestigious university.

The 58-year-old academician, now the university's 17th president, started his college studies in Qinghua in 1965 with a major in engineering physics. He earned his doctor's degree in Aarhua University of Denmark in 1982.
After his graduation from Qinghua, Gu served as a visiting scholar at Notre Dame University of the United States and a guest professor at Tohoku University of Japan.
Gu, born in 1945 and a native of Jilin province in northeast China, who dedicated himself for a long period of time to research and professional studies in physics, has registered many important attainments in the sphere of condensed physics.
Wang Dazhong, who resigned from the university presidency because of his advancing age, currently serves as the honorary director of the university affairs committee.
