The first round of formal talks between the Nepali government and the anti-government guerrillas concluded here Sunday evening with the two sides agreeing to form a monitoring committee to monitor the code of conduct for the on-going peace process in the country.

The four-member monitoring team includes Minister for Information and Communication Rameshnath Pandey and Minister for Physical Planning and Works Narayan Singh Pun from the government side, as well as Ram Bahadur Thapa and Krishna Bahadur Mahara from the guerrillas' side, Pun told reporters after the talks.

"The talks completed in a satisfactory manner and I am optimistic of the success of the talks," Pun said, adding that the date and venue for the next round of talks would be decided later through mutual understanding.

The formal talks, earlier scheduled for last Monday, were postponed by the guerrillas, who blamed the government for not being prepared properly for the agenda of the talks.
