Some 10,000 Cubans on Saturday gathered in Cuba's eastern city of Rio Cauto, 600 km east of Havana, to condemn the United States for fomenting opposition to the Cuban government.
At the rally, several speakers, including children, doctors, professors and workers, expressed their support for Cuban leader Fidel Castro and branded the United States as the principal violator of human rights in the world and held it responsible for imposing an unfair international order.
They criticized Washington for using military force under the pretext of fighting international terrorism, whose first victims were Afghanistan and Iraq.
The rally was part of the Open Tribunes campaign that takes place each Saturday in different parts in Cuba.
On April 11, three men who tried to hijack a ferry on April 2 to get to the United States were executed. The executions followed a week of sentences -- from six to 28 years in prison -- handed down to 75 dissidents arrested in a recent crackdown and accused of being threats to state security.
The US government then criticized Cuba for infringing upon human rights.
On April 23, Dagoberto Rodriguez, head of the Cuban Interests Section in Washington, held a news conference, accusing the United States of fomenting opposition to Cuban President Fidel Castro's government.
