SARS Deaths Toll up to 19 in Canada

Three more people have died of severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) in Canada in the past twodays, but the number of new cases is declining, Canadian health officials said Friday.

Three more people have died of severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) in Canada in the past twodays, but the number of new cases is declining, Canadian health officials said Friday.

All three new SARS deaths were in Canada's hardest hit province of Ontario. The death toll in Canada from SARS now stands at 19.

SARS has infected more than 300 people in Canada, most of them in Ontario. The epidemic is putting a strain not only on the economy but on front-line health-care workers.

In March, a daily average of 3.2 new probable cases was reported. In April, the figure dropped to three probable cases. Inthe past week, the average has been 1.4 a day.
