Changchun, the host city of the 2007 Asian Winter Games, has launched a program to solicit logo and mascot designs all over Asia, a local sports official said Saturday.

With the grand winter gathering still four years to go, the capital city of northeast China's Jilin province has already begun its preparations and the tender for logo and mascot is an important part of the work, said Guo Zhongjun, deputy director of the Changchun Organizing Committee for the 6th Winter Asiad.

"Although the organizing committee is yet to be formally established, 28 staff members have already been doing preparatory work according to a well-formulated plan, including the logo and mascot tender," Guo told Xinhua.

"The logo and mascot should be a showcase for Changchun's local color and an advertisement for the city," he added.

The entries must be submitted by August 30th, either by mail addressed to the working committee in Changchun or via the official website www.changchun2007.org . The results will be unveiled at a news conference and on the website.

"Besides the tender for the logo and mascot, venue construction, transportation and logistics work are also under way," said Guo, also head of the Changchun Municipal Sports Administration.

The 6th Winter Asiad will be held in January, 2007.
