CPPCC National Committee Meeting on SARS

The 10th National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) held its fourth meeting of chairman and vice-chairmen here Friday.

The 10th National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) held its fourth meeting of chairman and vice-chairmen Friday.

It was presided over by CPPCC National Committee Chairman Jia Qinglin, who asked CPPCC committees at various levels and CPPCC members to contribute to the fight against the severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS).

The meeting concluded that the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee has made correct analyses and decisions on the current SARS prevention work, carried out timely deployments of personnel and adopted necessary and key measures.

The CPC Central Committee, with comrade Hu Jintao as general secretary, is giving top priority to people's interests, which will greatly encourage the party and the whole country to work together and achieve a victory in SARS prevention work.

Jia Qinglin, also a member of the Standing Committee of the CPC Central Committee Political Bureau, asked CPPCC committees and members at various levels to adopt a highly responsible attitude in the face of the complexity and hardship of SARS prevention work, and work under the guidance of the CPC Central Committee.

He stressed that CPPCC members should pay close attention to the evolving situation and to problems arising in SARS prevention work and give accurate reports to relevant governments and departments.

The meeting decided to send a letter to CPPCC national committee members on assisting the party and government in SARS prevention work.

The meeting also passed the working regulation of the CPPCC meeting of chairman and vice-chairmen, the work program of the CPPCC national committee for the year 2003 and measures to improve news reports on CPPCC leaders.
