Russia hopes the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) and the United States will continue to explore a solution to the DPRK nuclear crisis by talks, Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Losyukov said on Friday.

"We are hoping that the DPRK and the United States are able to patiently continue the search for a solution through negotiations that would lead to the return of the DPRK to the non-proliferationregime while guaranteeing its sovereignty and interests of economic development," Losyukov was quoted by the Interfax news agency as saying.

Losyukov made the statement after the US-DPRK talks on the nuclear issue ended in Beijing on Friday.

Russia has expressed its readiness to take part in the talks.

The DPRK nuclear dispute flared up in October last year when USofficials said the DPRK admitted it had a clandestine nuclear program in violation of a 1994 agreement with the United States.

In November, Washington and its allies suspended oil shipments to the DPRK promised under the agreement, and the DPRK responded by moving to reactivate its frozen nuclear facilities.

Negotiations on the 1994 agreement were between Pyongyang and Washington. This time, Washington has insisted that Russia, China,Japan and South Korea be also involved.
