The quarterly report on the urbanites' disposable income released recently by Urban Survey Team under Beijing Statistic Bureau shows that per-capita disposable income of Beijing's urban residents in the first quarter was 3752.1 yuan, up 14.6 percent over the same period of last year, with the growth rate ranking second in the country. Meanwhile, eight kinds of consumption had an all-round increase, and per-capita nonproductive expenditure came to 2846.7 yuan, up 15.7 percent year-on-year; or 14.8 percent increase in real terms.

In addition, from January to March, the newly-increased savings deposits of urban and rural residents were 25.3 percent more than that of the corresponding period last year. In the first quarter, the registered rate of urban unemployment was 1.49 percent; and the general employment situation was relaxed somewhat compared with that of the past two years, the number of registered urban unemployed persons dropped 7.1 percent from the previous year, of whom the newly added ones decreased by 26.4 percent.

According to the Urban Survey Team's analysis, there are the following three main reasons for the income growth: First, the rapid growth of salaries; second, the 3.1-fold per-capita property income rise year on year; and third, the 15.8 percent increase of transference income.

From the perspective of consumption, residents' nonproductive expenditures maintained a rapid growth, the eight kinds of consumption witnessed an all-round increase, and spending on household durable goods that presented a downward trend in the last two years began to pick up.

In the first quarter, the income of the low-paid families increased steadily; due to the low income-earners' small income base number and their slower income growth than that of the high income-earners, the income gaps between the rich and the poor got wider, with the difference enlarging to 5,948 yuan from the previous year's 4170.2 yuan.
