The United States, the DPRK and China have opened talks in Beijing Wednesday aimed at resolving the stand-off over Pyongyang's nuclear program.

It is the first direct dialogue between the US and the DPRK since the row erupted in October last year.

US Assistant Secretary of State James Kelly said nothing to waiting reporters as he left his hotel in Beijing for the talks.

They are being held in an unknown location in the city.

Kelly has already held some discussions, meeting China's vice foreign minister Wang Yi shortly after his arrival Tuesday.

The talks are scheduled to run until Friday.
