Beijing to Complete 90 Infrastructure Facilities before 2008
Beijing has kicked off 90 major construction projects, which will all be completed before the year 2008, as learned from related departments. In coming 5 years priority will be given, besides Olympics gyms, to projects concerning city environment, transportation, water supply and city communication.

In coming 5 years priority will be given, besides Olympics gyms, to projects concerning city environment, transportation, water supply and city communication. The widely concerned rail-line from Dongzhimen to Capital Airport is also on the list, and accordingly, investment for city infrastructure will be raised to around 225 billion yuan in five years to come.
Meanwhile, according to the nation's tenth Five-year Plan (2001-2005), the total investment for fixed assets during the five years would be RMB 800 billion yuan, including RMB 180 billion yuan for infrastructure constructions, which will be further raised to 225 billion yuan, around 150 billion yuan being funded by local authorities.
Transportation projects take up the biggest proportion in these constructions, and priority is given to light railways. Besides the No 9 Line and the Dongzhimen-Capital Airport line, there will be four lines in rural areas. Adding the No 5 Line, Bawangfen-Tongzhou line and the metro Olympics sub-line, there will be more than 100-km newly built track lines by 2008.
By the year 2008 Beijing's atmosphere environment and transportation will fully meet the demand of hosting Olympic Games. By 2010, the city will basically solve the problems of transportation, water resources and ecological environment, build a public transportation system and management system, and modernize facilities of water, electricity, gas, heat supplies and communication.
