A major in nano material science and technology will be offered in prestigious Hainan University in south China this year, becoming the first nanoscience major in any Chinese institution of higher learning.
According to a source from the university Tuesday, 40 students will be enrolled from around China at the Institute of Technology this year, where they will get a Bachelor of Technology degree after four years of study.
The institute has carried out several national nanoscience experiments and founded a research center for nano materials.
Nanoscience is applied extensively in electronics, metallurgy, the chemical industry and national defense. Surveys show that the country is in need of at least 10,000 nano talents in the short run, but there has been no such major so far in colleges, said thesource.
