Strong Tropical Storm to Affect South China Sea, Taiwan

A strong tropical storm developing from Typhoon Kujira, the second of its kind occurred this year, was expected to bring gales and rainstorms to parts of the South China Sea and Taiwan province Tuesday.

A strong tropical storm developing from Typhoon Kujira, the second of its kind occurred this year, was expected to bring gales and rainstorms to parts of the South China Sea and Taiwan province Tuesday.

According to a forecast from China's Central Meteorological Station Tuesday morning, Kujira, the eye of which was at 19.7 degrees north latitude and 124 degrees east longitude at 5:00 a.m.,was moving northwestward at a speed of 10 kilometers per hour, approaching coastal areas in the southeast of Taiwan.

The storm will produce gale force 7-9 winds in the Balintang Strait, the Bashi Strait, the northeast of the South China Sea, the Taiwan Strait, southern Taiwan and the sea to the east of the island.

The forecast noted that the area affected by the eye of the cyclone will have winds of up to gale force 10-11.

In addition, the southern and eastern parts of Taiwan will haveheavy rain or even rainstorms.
