Nissan Explores Chinese Auto Market

The "Sunny", the new automobile produced jointly by China and Japan, made its debut at the 2003 Shanghai International Automobile Exhibition Sunday.

The "Sunny", the new automobile produced jointly by China and Japan, made its debut at the 2003 Shanghai International Automobile Exhibition Sunday.

The new car, the first product of the cooperation between Japan's Nissan Motor Co. Ltd. and the Dongfeng Motor Corporation of China, will be put on the market this summer.

According to a Chinese market exploration plan, six new Nissan models will be localized in China by 2006, and Nissan's annual production capacity here will reach 900,000 within ten years,, said Katsumi Nakamura, the permanent director of the board of Nissan.

In September 2002, Nissan established a strategic cooperative relationship with Dongfeng, giving birth to a joint venture -- Dongfeng Motor Co. Ltd., with the aim of jointly expanding the growing Chinese automobile market.
