The New York Times quoted US military officials Sunday as saying that the US is to establish long-term military relations with a future Iraqi government. The US will ask the new Iraqi government to allow its troops to use military bases in Iraq to prevent the country from entering another crisis.

The report says the US military hopes to use four of Iraq's military bases after the war in the country. One of the bases is located near the International Airport in Baghdad. The other three are located in the southern, northern and western parts of Iraq. The report also says the US has started to reduce its military presence in the Middle East.

There has not yet been any official comment from the US concerning this report.
