The 14-year-old men's 100 meters freestyle national record, the oldest on the record book, was fallen on Saturday as Asian Games gold medalist Chen Zuocruised to win the title at the Chinese National Swimming Championships here.

Chen, who collected two golds from the 200m freestyle and 800m freestyle relay so far, swam a sizzling 50.44 seconds, beating the previous mark 50.51 set by Chen Jianqiang in 1989.

Huang Shaohua came to second in 50.58 and Liu Yu third in 50.85.

The 21-year-old Chen, 100m freestyle champion, said: "This is my personal-best. It is the oldest national mark, but I am not happy with it because I planned to better the result 50.34 that Huang swam in the first leg of the winning relay at the Busan Asian Games last year."

Wang Zheng, who quit swimming for almost a year but returned three months ago, brought Tianjin, the host city, its first breaststroke national title in a below-par performance 2:17.46.

The silver medal went to Cheng Hao, also came back to the pool for two months, with a time of 2:17.54.

Wang, 21, said: "I regained my confidence in swimming from this meet thought the result is very poor. It is a good start for me as it is the first time that I win in the national event."

Cui Li snatched women's 200m butterfly gold medal in 2:10.55, followed by Zhang Zhiyi 2:11.54 and Li Jie 2:14.04.

In the women's 50m backstroke final, Gao Chang and Hua Jing shared the first place in 29.12. Li Hui took the bronze in 29.20.

Shanghai was the fastest in the women's 4X200m freestyle relay in 8:03.76, ahead of Zhejiang 8:04.17.

Women's record holder Qi Hui and 100m world champion Luo Xuejuan will clash in Sunday's 200m breaststroke final.
