Turkish Prime Minister Receb Tayyip Erdogan on Friday reiterated the country's wish to participate in rebuilding Iraq, saying the participation was unquestionable.Turkey would play its role in this respect, Erdogan said, adding the Iraq situation is still not stable, but shortly it will return to normal.
Turkey was seeking to restore order in Iraq though it has rejected participating in the war to avoid economic problems, the prime minister said.
Commenting on the Turkish minister of housing's statement that he believed that the United States would not give Turkey a chance to take part in reconstructing Iraq, Erdogan explained that the cabinet minister's pronouncements reflected his own views and not the government's.
Earlier in the day, Turkish Foreign Minister Abdullah Gul also noted that Turkey was ready to make contributions to Iraqi reconstruction.
Speaking before departure for a regional meeting in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, Gul said that the ministers would discuss the post-war reconstruction of Iraq and the future of the region during contacts in the Saudi capital.
