World champion Luo Xuejuan Thursday vowed to swim at her best at this year's World Championships after a near miss of the women's 100m breaststroke national title.

Luo, who swept both 50m and 100m gold medals at the 2001 world championships in Fukuoka, was edged into second place by Qi Hui inThursday's final.

Qi, the 200m breaststroke world record holder, trailed for mostof the course but overtook Luo in the final 25 meters, clocking a fastest time of one minute 08.24 seconds. Luo was 0.11 seconds behind.

Luo admitted her disappointment at the result, saying "it's farbelow my best."

"I lost my balance when starting because the platform was too slippery," said the 19-year-old Luo.

"Then I managed to regain my rhythm but ran out of energy in the sprint," she added.

However, Luo said she had an eye on July's world championships.

"In contrast to my mediocre performance in national events, I always have a good result in the international competitions," she said.
