SARS Impact on Economy Rests with Time for its Control: Official

A spokesman for the National Bureau of Statistics acknowledged Thursday that the severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) will have negative impact on China's economy, but the degree of the impact rests with the time to control the epidemic disease.

A spokesman for the National Bureau of Statistics acknowledged Thursday that the severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) will have negative impact on China's economy, but the degree of the impact rests with the time to control the epidemic disease.

Yao Jingyuan told a press conference that industries that are most vulnerable to the impact include tourism, catering, accommodation and transportation, while wholesale, retail and trade will be moderately affected.

He said that the disease will not have serious impact on investment.
