Russia welcomed Wednesday the UN's decision to reject a draft resolution, which condemns it for alleged human rights violations in its war-torn republic of Chechnya.
"The results of this vote have underscored that the international community is becoming better aware of Chechnya's successes and approves the choice of the Chechen people, who have resolutely turned their backs on terrorists and extremists, in favor of peace and development together with Russia," the Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
"Russia is ready for constructive cooperation with all those who support the idea of a practical and de-politicized dialogue onhuman rights," the statement said.
The 59th session of the UN Commission on Human Rights rejected Wednesday for a second year running an EU-sponsored resolution condemning Russia for the war in Chechnya.
