Chinese Asian Games heroine Xu Yanwei collected her second title in the women's 100 meters butterfly on the second day of the Chinese National Swimming Championships Wednesday in Tianjin.
Chinese Asian Games heroine Xu Yanwei collected her second title in the women's 100 meters butterfly on the second day of the Chinese National Swimming Championships Wednesday in Tianjin.
Xu, who had a harvest of five gold medals from sprint freestyles and relay events in the Busan Asian Games last year, captured her second title with a personal best 59.08 seconds, breezing past Zhou Yafei in 1:00.07 and Zhao Jing 1:00.26.
Xu, member of the winning team of 4X100m freestyle on Tuesday, said: "I did not expect that I could improve my career-best by 0.6seconds. But my favorite stroke is freestyle, not butterfly."
"I will compete in the 50, 100, 200m freestyles and two relay events in the following days," Xu said.
Women's 200m breaststroke world record holder Qi Hui again met no challenge to take the 200m individual medley in 2:14.87 after she competed in the 100m breaststroke semifinals.
Zhou Yafei came to second in 2:15.67 and Zhang Tianyi third in 2:17.16.
Long-time national champion Zeng Qiliang suffered a rare upset as he finished second in the men's 100m breaststroke in 1:02.80, which was won by Wang Haibo in 1:02.42.
However, Zeng, silver medalist in the Perth World Championshipsin 1998, was satisfied with his result.
The 29-year-old Zeng said: "I have reigned the event in China for almost 10 years. It is a good news for China that someone younger can beat me in the 100 meter distance. However, I will notgive up training and competition if the national team needs me."
In the men's 50m butterfly, Zhou Jiawei of Guangdong won in 24.65, ahead of veteran Jin Hao 25.02 and Cao Xuewei 25.10.
The women's 100m breaststroke final will take place Thursday evening, featuring world champion Luo Xuejuan and 200m specialist Qi Hui.
