Japanese PM to Visit 5 European Countries

Japanese Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi will pay a visit to five European countries from April 26 to May 3, and is expected to discuss the Iraqi issue with his counterparts, Kyodo said Wednesday.

Japanese Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi will pay a visit to five European countries from April 26 to May 3, and is expected to discuss the Iraqi issue with his counterparts, Kyodo said Wednesday.

The premier plans to visit Britain, Spain, France, Germany and Greece, urging the leaders of the countries to seek unity of the international community in efforts to help rehabilitate and reconstruct Iraq, Kyodo quoted government officials as saying.

Koizumi also hopes to discuss the nuclear issue in the Korean Peninsula with the European leaders, the officials said.

In Greece, Koizumi is expected to attend a regular summit meeting of the European Union (EU) on May 2 as an observer and hold bilateral talks with some of the EU leaders, they said.
