China appreciates the decision of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) to solve its nuclear issue through dialogue, noting that the dialogue format was "not important", Foreign Ministry spokesman Liu Jianchao said Tuesday.

The Korean Central News Agency, the DPRK's national news agency, quoted the DPRK Foreign Ministry spokesman as saying on Apr. 12 "If the United States is ready to make a bold switch over in its Korea policy for a settlement of the nuclear issue, the DPRK will not stick to any particular dialogue format."

The really important matter was the commitment that the partiesconcerned would make to solving the issue, not the format of dialogue, Liu said at the regular press conference in Beijing.

China always supported a resolution of the Korean nuclear issuethrough dialogue, Liu said, and hoped a peaceful resolution process could be initiated as soon as possible.

Liu stressed that China would continue its efforts to promote apeaceful resolution to the Korean nuclear issue.
