One student was killed and three other injured at a high school in New Orleans, Louisiana, Monday by a gunman with an AK-47 automatic rifle, police said.
Police Chief Eddie Compass said the gunman apparently slipped into the neighborhood surrounding the John McDonogh High School after the shooting and was being sought by officers. There was no immediate word on possible motive.
The three injured students were not believed to have life-threatening wounds, Compass said. Students were ordered to stay in their classrooms after the shooting in the morning. Traffic in the area was shut down.
