Tanzania Pledges to Strengthen Ties with China
Tanzanian President Benjamin Mkapa said Monday in Dar es Salaam that Tanzania is willing to further strengthen political and economic cooperation with China in various fields.

Mkapa made the remarks while meeting with Yu Qingtai, the new Chinese ambassador to Tanzania, at the State House, the presidential palace. Yu, who arrived here last Sunday, had presented his credentials to Mkapa before the meeting.
The Tanzanian government attaches great importance to its ties with China and the Tanzania-China relationship has been proceeding smoothly since the two countries established diplomatic ties in 1964, Mkapa said.
Describing Tanzania-China cooperation as a success, Mkapa said there is still great potential for both sides to tap in many fields, especially economic and technological cooperation.
He also expressed his gratitude for China's sincere help and support for Tanzania's national construction in the past decades.
For his part, Yu said that China has been devoting much attention to its ties with Tanzania, which China regards as a firmcooperation partner in Africa, adding the Chinese government will make further efforts for the development of China-Tanzania relations.
